Beginning Band
The Beginning Band is made up of 6 beginner classes. It is open normally to 6th graders who are new to band. Beginning Band is a place for students who are interested in learning a traditional musical instrument and to explore its possibilities. Band students develop leadership, gain self esteem, and learn to perform as a team. Our instrumentation includes: Woodwinds - Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet and Saxophone; Brass - Trumpet, F Horn, Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba; Percussion - bells, marimba, snare/bass drum, timpani and accessories. Performance participation is required in order to be a member of this groups. During the course of the year, students may participate in the following types of performances: formal evening concerts, a music festival, and solo and ensemble performances.
2018-2019 Beginning Band Supply List (Click on your instrument for a supply list)
In addition to this list, all band students will be issued a specific locker in the band hall to store their instrument during the school day. Please bring a combination lock.
Bassoon Clarinet Euphonium Flute F Horn Oboe Percussion Saxophone Trombone Trumpet Tuba
We cannot express how excited we are that you will be joining our band program this fall. Just as a reminder, each student received a folder with information regarding necessary supplies and equipment for the instrument they chose. We would like our students to have these items by the first week of school. There are many stores in our local area. Please feel free to shop around for the best prices.
Furthermore, we highly encourage our parents to rent their child’s instrument. The music stores all offer a “rent-to-own” program where your monthly payments will go towards the purchase of the instrument. Many stores will allow you to reserve an instrument very soon so you can beat the back to school rush. If you choose to purchase an instrument, we ask that you do not stray from the list of recommended brands. We understand that many discount retailers are now providing instruments at a very low cost; however, it is our experience that these instruments do not hold up in the course of the school year. Many times, repairs on these instruments far exceed the initial cost of the instrument itself. The instruments and equipment we have listed have been selected through thorough research. If you find an instrument you would like to purchase that is not on our recommended list, please contact us for approval before purchasing.
Please keep in mind, we never want a child miss out on being in band because of financial matters. Please, contact us as soon as possible if finances are a major concern.
